Callosum magazine

Callosum Magazine (2016-2019)

Callosum Magazine was an arts magazine that invited creatives of all disciplines and skill levels to receive personal feedback, online and in print publication, and invitation within a collaborative and conversation based arts community.

WHAT WE DID

Organized by a group of volunteer working artists, Callosum Magazine established a connective arts community in Oak Park via a web publication and an in-person gallery performance series that promoted participation and conversation with fellow working artists.

What MADE Us Different

We didn’t reject anyone. We really tried to use our website and social media feeds to provide coverage, publication, and amplification for any local artist who needed it. Even more, our artist-to-artist workshop and editing processes created peer relationships and creative community that created an alternate cultural space to undergraduate arts programs and other institutions with high barrier of entry.

Why We did It

We wanted to democratize the role of the publication and fill the gap in coverage of the emerging scene in Oak Park in the late 2010s. We also wanted to create a supportive network that encouraged and supported all creative people in our area.
